Privacy Policy

Chasing Salt was designed so your health information stays with you.

Effective October 22, 2026

The short version. Chasing Salt has no accounts, no analytics, no ads and no servers that receive your health information. Your symptom entries, goals and weather readings are stored on your iPhone. We never see them, sell them or share them.

Who we are

Chasing Salt is an iPhone app developed by Scot Simon ("we", "us"). This policy explains what information the app uses, where it goes and the choices you have. If you have questions, email support@chasingsalt.com.

Information we don't collect

We don't operate any service that receives data from the app. We do not collect:

  • Your name, email address or any account information (there are no accounts)
  • Your symptom entries, notes, goals or streaks
  • Your Apple Health data
  • Your location
  • Usage analytics, crash analytics, advertising identifiers or device fingerprints

Chasing Salt does not include third-party analytics, advertising or tracking software, and it does not track you across other companies' apps or websites.

Information stored on your device

Everything you enter is saved in the app's private storage on your iPhone. That includes:

  • The symptoms you track and each episode you log: time, severity, duration, functional impact, posture, triggers, relief measures, associated symptoms, any heart rate or blood pressure you enter, and your notes
  • The approximate location where an episode was logged and the weather at that time (barometric pressure, temperature and humidity), used for the pressure and location insights
  • Barometric pressure readings and forecasts used for alerts
  • Your goals, goal entries and streaks
  • Your app settings, such as alert thresholds and a manually entered location

This information stays on your device. If you back up your iPhone with iCloud Backup or to a computer, Apple includes the app's data in that backup, protected by your Apple Account or backup password. Deleting Chasing Salt from your iPhone deletes its data from the device.

Apple Health

If you choose to connect Apple Health, Chasing Salt asks for permission to read certain data so it can line it up with your symptoms. You choose which types to allow, and you can change this at any time in the Health app under Sharing > Apps > Chasing Salt. The data types the app may request are:

CategoryData types
HeartHeart rate, resting heart rate, walking heart rate average, heart rate variability, cardio recovery, VO₂ max, irregular rhythm notifications
RespiratoryRespiratory rate, blood oxygen
BodySleeping wrist temperature
ActivityStand hours, active energy, exercise minutes, steps, walking and running distance, flights climbed
MobilityWalking steadiness, walking speed, walking asymmetry, step length, stair ascent and descent speed, number of times fallen

Apple Health data is read and analyzed on your iPhone only. It is never sent to us or to anyone else, never used for advertising or marketing, and never sold. Chasing Salt does not write any data to Apple Health.

Location and weather

Chasing Salt uses your location to get local barometric pressure, temperature and humidity, and to label your episodes by city in the Location Analysis report. You can allow location "While Using" the app, allow "Always" so pressure alerts work in the background, or deny location and enter a location manually.

To provide weather, your device sends your coordinates to Apple's WeatherKit service. To show city names, your device uses Apple's geocoding service. These requests go directly from your device to Apple and are covered by Apple's Privacy Policy; we don't receive them. Weather data is provided by Apple Weather.

Notifications

Pressure alerts and reminders are scheduled and delivered by your iPhone. We don't send notifications from our own servers and we don't collect your notification preferences.

Apple Intelligence

If your iPhone supports Apple Intelligence, you can describe a goal in your own words and the app turns it into a structured goal. This uses Apple's on-device model; your text is processed on your iPhone and is not sent to us.

Exports you create

When you use Clinical Summary Export, the app creates a PDF on your device. You decide whether to save, print or share it, and with whom. Once you share a report, its handling is governed by the recipient and the app or service you used to send it.

Subscriptions and payments

Purchases are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never receive your payment details. Apple provides developers with aggregated, non-identifying sales and subscription reports, and the app checks with the App Store on your device to confirm whether your subscription is active.

When you contact us

If you email us for support, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to include, such as the app version and device information shown on the in-app support screen. We use it only to respond to you and to improve the app, and we don't share it with anyone. You can ask us to delete your correspondence at any time.

This website

This website doesn't use cookies, analytics or advertising. It loads fonts from Google Fonts, which means your browser connects to Google's servers to download them. Our web host may keep standard server logs, such as IP addresses and pages requested, for security and reliability.

Children

Chasing Salt is not directed at children under 13. Because the app doesn't collect personal information, we don't knowingly collect information from children of any age.

Your choices and rights

  • Change Apple Health access in the Health app under Sharing > Apps > Chasing Salt
  • Change location access in Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > Chasing Salt
  • Turn notifications on or off in Settings > Notifications > Chasing Salt, or in the app's own settings
  • Delete individual entries in the app, or delete the app to remove all of its data from your device

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal information an organization holds about you. Because we don't hold your app data, there's nothing on our side to access or delete beyond any emails you've sent us. Email support@chasingsalt.com for any privacy request.

Security

Your data is protected by your iPhone's built-in security, including data protection encryption tied to your passcode. Keep your device passcode private and your software up to date.

Changes to this policy

If we change how Chasing Salt handles information, we'll update this page and the date at the top. Significant changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
